Experience and Approach
Dan has over 23 years of experience supporting people in their recovery journey. Since qualifying as a social worker in 2006, Dan worked in the USA and NZ in health care and child protection. Since 2014, Dan has worked at the CDHB/Te Whatu Ora with people of all ages and in various capacities: EMDR and CBT therapist, team leader, acting associate clinical manager, trainer, duly authorised officer, clinical supervisor, social work field educator, and case manager.
Dan’s areas of experience and interest include work with refugees, migrants, youth offenders, and people who experience complex trauma, schizophrenia, psychosis, BPD, BAPD, substance use or dependence, OCD, eating disorders, ADHD, ASD, FASD, FND, and anxiety and mood disorders. Dan draws on a wide range of therapy modalities including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Positive Psychology, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
