Work History
Louise Steytler is an experienced psychologist with a career spanning over two decades across South Africa and New Zealand. Currently, Louise operates a private practice as a full-time ACC Registered Psychologist, providing therapy for clients with sensitive claims and conducting supported assessments to develop tailored therapy plans.
Prior to this, Louise worked as a Psychologist for the Ministry of Education in New Zealand, delivering specialist psychological services to children, young people, and their families. This included assessments, direct therapeutic interventions, and collaborative work with multidisciplinary teams to support learning and development. Earlier roles in South Africa included private practice and positions at specialized schools.
Experience
Louise Steytler brings a wealth of experience working with children and their families and currently specializes in supporting young people and adults within their family systems. Louise’s professional interests encompass attachment, ADHD, emotional regulation, trauma, and posttraumatic stress disorder, including cases involving sexual abuse or violence. Additionally, Louise enjoys working with seniors.
The primary therapeutic approaches used include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-focused Cognitive Behaviour therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and psychodynamic therapy.
