Since 2014 Abbey has worked as a social worker in the Family Works team at Presbyterian Support, working with adults, children and families. In this setting Abbey has discovered her passion for therapeutic social work. She has spent this time developing her knowledge and skills in this area, discovering how she can support clients to achieve improved over-all wellbeing, strengthened relationships, a strong sense of self-worth and healing from difficult past experiences.

Abbey has worked with adults and children who have experienced trauma, are experiencing feelings of worry or anxiety and other unsettling emotions.

Previous to this Abbey has worked with children and young people in the disability sector.

Abbey seeks to provide a warm and approachable environment where clients feel encouraged to work through the challenges they are experiencing in their lives. Abbey uses her gentle and encouraging nature to engage with clients and allow them to work at a pace that is suitable to them.

Abbey uses a variety of modalities in her work with clients including CBT, Motivational Interviewing techniques and is influenced by Narrative Therapy and trauma research. She feels a Strengths Based Approach is important in gaining a sense of moving forward.
